TERMS
Terms of Use
These Terms take effect on the day the official Flash Mask website launches.
1. Acceptance and Scope
These Terms apply when you visit flashmask.net, use Flash Mask for the web, or use the Flash Mask app for Mac. By using the website or either product, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, stop using them.
Flash Mask is operated by Zhao Jianzhong. Questions about these Terms may be sent to [email protected].
2. What Flash Mask Provides
Flash Mask is an on-device tool for describing regions in an image. You can import an image, outline one or more regions, add one optional prompt, and generate JSON coordinate data or a black-and-white mask aligned to the original image. JSON is the default result; the mask is a fallback when text coordinates are not enough. Flash Mask does not call or control a third-party AI for you and does not promise that any third-party AI will edit an image as you expect.
3. Web Service
- The web version processes images, file information, selections, coordinates, prompts, JSON and masks locally in your browser. No account is required.
- A new browser receives up to three free image tasks on its first local calendar day. That day does not also receive a daily credit after those tasks are used. From the next local calendar day, the browser receives at most one free task per day. Credits do not roll over or accumulate.
- A task is counted only after an image loads successfully. If no free task remains, you may still finish outlining and editing. Flash Mask asks you to watch a rewarded ad or buy the Mac app only when you try to copy JSON or export a mask.
- Watching one rewarded ad to completion unlocks the current image task. If no ad is available or an ad cannot complete for a reason that is not yours, only the copy or mask export you just requested is authorised, and you must click again to perform it.
- The web version may show display ads and rewarded ads that you actively request. Ads are isolated from the editing workspace, and ad requests must not contain your images or editing content.
- Local credits may reset if you clear browser data or change browsers or devices. Flash Mask does not create an account and does not promise cross-device credit or task syncing.
4. Mac App Purchase and Updates
- Flash Mask for Mac is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
- After purchase, you may keep using the version you bought and receive all 1.x updates at no extra charge.
- We do not promise free upgrades to a future major version with materially expanded scope. Any such upgrade policy will be stated on the App Store and in an official announcement at that time.
- The actual checkout price, taxes and regional availability are determined by the App Store for your region.
- The official app is purchased and updated only through the App Store. The website and GitHub do not provide a DMG,
.app, or any other directly installable Mac app package.
5. Your Content and Outputs
- You must have the right to use the images and other materials you import into Flash Mask, and you are responsible for your use.
- Provided that you do not infringe another person's rights, break the law, or violate a third-party service's rules, you may use JSON, masks and resulting final works created with Flash Mask for personal or commercial purposes. Flash Mask charges no additional licence fee for those uses.
- Flash Mask does not take ownership of content you import. When you use third-party AI, materials or platforms, you remain responsible for their terms. These Terms do not obtain third-party rights for you.
6. Lawful Use
You must not use Flash Mask to process, create or help distribute unlawful or infringing content, or otherwise violate another person's copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other legal rights.
Flash Mask processes task content locally. The operator does not proactively view, review, monitor or receive your images, selections, coordinates, prompts, JSON or masks. Content leaves your device only if you choose to contact support and include text, a screenshot or a file in your message.
7. Source Availability and Licence
Verified Flash Mask source code will be made available in the same launch window as the website under a source-available model, not as open source.
Subject to the LICENSE published with the source, you may view the source and compile it for personal, non-commercial use. Without permission, you may not:
- redistribute a DMG,
.app, installer or other compiled artefact; - publicly deploy the source, compiled artefacts or modified versions;
- use the source, compiled artefacts or modified versions commercially; or
- publish, distribute or otherwise make modified versions available.
The LICENSE in the source repository controls the source-code grant. It applies to source code and compiled artefacts; it does not restrict the uses of JSON, masks and final works already permitted by Section 5.
8. Brand and Other Rights
Except for the limited rights expressly granted by the source LICENSE, these Terms do not grant rights to use the Flash Mask name, logo, icon, visual assets or other brand identifiers. Fair reference allowed by law is not restricted.
9. Product Commitments, Third Parties and Disclaimers
Flash Mask provides functionality according to the express descriptions on its official website for supported systems, browsers and image formats. The current supported scope is the scope published on that website.
To the extent permitted by law:
- Flash Mask does not guarantee the results, availability or continuity of third-party AI, the App Store, browsers, advertising services or other third-party services;
- Flash Mask does not promise that the product will always be error-free or uninterrupted, or work with every system, format or purpose that is not expressly supported; and
- known defects may be handled through support and later updates, but no particular repair time or outcome is promised.
Consumer rights and statutory guarantees that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or waived remain in effect.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential loss, or for loss caused by third-party AI or another third-party service.
The operator's total liability for direct loss arising from Flash Mask will not exceed the amount you actually paid to purchase the Flash Mask app for Mac. If you paid nothing for the Mac app, that cap is zero.
The limits above do not apply to wilful misconduct, gross negligence, personal injury, or any other liability that the law does not allow to be excluded or limited. Consumer remedies that cannot lawfully be limited in your location remain available.
11. Privacy
The Privacy Policy explains how the website and Mac app handle data. The core boundary is that images, full paths, selections, coordinates, prompts, JSON and masks stay on your device and are not sent to advertising or analytics services. The Mac app contains no advertising, analytics, telemetry or tracking SDK. The website may process only the anonymous, minimal site and funnel events described in the Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to These Terms
If the product or applicable rules change, the operator may publish revised Terms and state a new effective date on the page. A revision does not retroactively change completed App purchase rights, unless mandatory law requires otherwise.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China. Mandatory consumer protections and rights in the user's location are not excluded by this choice.
14. Language
The Chinese version is the governing version of these Terms. The English version is a translation provided for the convenience of international users. If the versions differ, the Chinese version controls, without affecting consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded in the user's location.
